Devin the Dude gets some Sticky Green in Btown

Classic guerrilla footage, from Daundaground Archives… 2007, Berkeley Ca.  Devin Copeland from Houston has been putting it down from Odd Squad, Facemob and Coughee Bros..  Having met Rob Quest in the early 80s (the blind rapper named Bilnd Rob), hooking up with this producer/artist got him down with the Cougee Bros.  A lil hip hop trivia, when forming Odd Squad with Devin, Blind Rob, and Devin’s homebody Jugg Mugg, their Dj was DJ Screw.  Screw took their demo to Rap-a-lot and Devin’s career took off.  With his sleepy flow, and melodic hooks .. Devin has stolen the show many times guest appearing on other artists joints including Dr Dre’s “Fuck You,” De La Soul’s “Babyphat”,  Scarface’s “Fuck Faces”.

Be sure to cop Devin’s new album Suite #420. Very much in the Devin style, there are skits with voices, smoke cuts, and spaced out balads.  Stand out cuts are “We Get High”, “Ultimate High”, and “Where Ya At”, where Devin goes in on his lady in a funky, beating out the trunk smoke infused balad, that is up there with his best dirty south rap balad. Cop the album, and blaze it.

Music & Him …. Nate Dogg’s Legacy

Still suffering from 2 massive strokes, the latest in September of 08′, Nate Dogg is unable to speak, or sing, and is confined to a wheelchair.  This Project Sound Spotlights is Nate Dogg.

Nate Dogg (nee. Nathaniel Hale born on August 19, 1969) may quite possibly be one of most underappreciated members of the Dogg Pound. Simply put, his vocal talents have been lent to such west coast hip hop classics as “Ain’t No Fun”, “B Please”, “Girls All Pause”, DJ Quik’s “Black Mercedes” Xzibit’s “Multiply” and 2Pac’s “Teardrops and Closed Caskets. Nate Dogg in many ways provided the concept of the R and B singer being a focal point in Hip-Hop music as the smooth yang to hardcore hip-hop’s yin. Nate has also influenced a host of other artists such as Butch Cassidy, Otis and Shug, T-Pain and a host of others who have since appeared on hip-hop records as well as R and B artists who have included rappers on their songs such as Usher, R-Kelly, Trey Songs and many others. It could be argued that he in many ways could have changed the way that Hip-Hop and R&B songs were created. A true legend indeed.
